Marine Netting

We operate in the bustling and picturesque port of Newlyn, England's largest fishing port and home to the largest fishing fleet in the UK with over 40 acres of harbour. The fishing industry is one of the most important in the county contributing millions of pounds to the Cornish economy each year with around 80 species of premium line, trawl, net and pot caught fish and shellfish landed daily.

Not forgetting our roots - South West Play traded as a chandlery for over a decade supplying the local community. Having now diversified, we use our unrivalled knowledge and traditional rope work and net making skills to excel within the ever growing playground manufacturing industry, although we still cater for the fishing industry supplying a varied range of Marine Netting.

Tall Ships
We are one of very few Traditional Net makers still in existence who have the knowledge and understanding of traditional net making techniques and methods. South West Play employs ex-fishermen who have worked with ropes and nets all their lives. In our opinion we have an unrivalled ability to supply a varied range of handmade marine netting to fit any seafaring vessel.

We have recently supplied the Stravros S Niarchos and her sistership the Price William, both British brig rigged tall ships owned and operated by the Tall Ships Youth Trust. The trust is a British charity that aims to promote self confidence, responsibility, teamwork and other similar qualities in young people.

The Traditional Castaway Nets
We have been supplying the Cast Net to private landowners who have lakes and reservoirs and angling shops throughout the country - who all report high degrees of success. Great for catching large quantities of all sorts of shoaling fish from a boat or on the shore. They are extremely robust, reinforced all along the weighted edge.

Beache Seine Nets
Beach Seine Nets are usually long flat nets, like a fence that is used to encircle a school of fish. Perfect for catching many species of shoaling fish. The beach seine net standard size of 65ft x 6ft with ropes, floats and leaded foot rope is usually held in stock but we are able to make these nets in a made to measure fashion. Prices will vary accordingly.
