Play Pathfinder Programme: Lambeth is one of only
30 Play Pathfinder local authorities nationally to receive funding
from the department for children, schools and families as part of the
National Play Strategy.
Lambeth has secured £2.5 million to develop 28 play areas by 2011. The
funding is being used to refurbish existing play areas or develop
entirely new play areas, including play areas in parks, housing
estates or adventure playgrounds. The designs for the play areas are
led by the children and young people and are innovative and creative,
attractive to both boys and girls, accessible to all children and
young people including those with disabilities, including natural
features such as sand, water, rocks, trees and landscaping, including
elements of active and challenging play as well as areas where
children can relax.
SWP has worked closely with several of the leading architects who were
awarded tenders since January 2010, including RCP Landscapes Ltd,
Visible Changes Ltd and Erect Architecture, designing, manufacturing
and installing a vast range of bespoke rope work and netting which has
now been installed, this funding is already starting to make a
difference to local children and young people.
